What happens when you extend the life of a physical project on the web?

I hope, that everybody thinks the same as Lawrence Lessig, when he says, that  "the internet is encouraging a wide range of people to create and to share their creativity".

The video today is presenting 3 main topics, related with internet:
  • Art in the era of the internet - an interview with Yancey Strickler (a founder of Kickstarter)
  • Creative commons modernizes ownership - an interview with Lawrence Lessig (a founding board member of Creative Commons)
  • Creators project connects physical to digital - an interview with Julia Kaganskiy (editor of  Creators Project) and Ciel Hunter (creative director of Creators Project)
If we have to answer on "What's the connection between creativity and internet?", the best answer is in the words of Julia Kaganskiy, who says, that "when extend the life of a physical project on the web, and give people the ability to remix that media, they’ll do some really inventive stuff with it." Don't you think so?

And here is the video. Enjoy it!

Stop adoring the theft of the original concepts and the idea plagiarism

These days there's a lot of buzz around the latest Durex visual. People find it "awesome", "brilliant", "great" and "funny".

But when being a thief became so "great" and "funny" thing? 12 years ago United Colours of Benetton created for 2000 Summer Olympic games the following visual.

Do you find differences, except the logos and messages - same concepts, same ideas, even the same subjects.

Behind every visual there's a concept and history of creation. The history behind the above visual of Durex is "Copy - Paste". It's not a history, which to be adored. Please, stop saying YES to artworks from the planet "NO" and let's stop adoring the theft of original concepts and the idea plagiarism.

Have a great day.
Yours K.K.

World Intellectual Property Day

Hi everyboday!

Happy World Intellectual Property Day!

It's established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to "raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life" and "to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe".

Each year there's a theme, which one is associated with the event. This year the theme is Visionary Innovators.

How YouTube thinks about copyright

Once Patrick Leahy have said: “The rights of copyright holders need to be protected, but some draconian remedies that have been suggested would create more problems than they would solve.”

There are so many copyright issues in the world. The video below presents one of them - how YouTube thinks about copyright. Margaret Gould Stewart, who is YouTube's head of user experience, is explaining the copyright issues of YouTube using as an example the video of Chris Brown’s single “Forever”. Here is her presentation:

And below is the wedding video with Chris Brown’s song:

Wednesday is here. Take it!

Regulation of the relationship between the copyright and the creativity

Hi everybody!

Here is very interesting lecture by the Harvard professor Larry Lessig about the Copyright issue related with creativity. Copyright and creativity are always related and the main question is how to "regulate this relationship".

His proposal the work of the artists and creators to be made available freely for non-commercial type of use, but not freely for any commercial use is really a worth subject of further conversation in area of the Copyright law.

"Lessig has built a reputation as the king of Internet law and as the most important next-wave thinker on intellectual property.", New York Magazine

Have a great day.
